Building the Fleet

This is the place where I will explain how to build your own fleet of ships to fight a Borg cube at Wolf 359 (or how to recreate a stunning graveyard scene, if you have the guts to destroy your models after you have finished them...)

Two ships are absent, the Niagara-class USS Princeton and the Freedom-class USS Firebrand. The reason is simple: while the ships below all use mass market AMT model kits as a basis for construction, those two were constructed using castings of some of the filming miniatures. So unless you happen to have access to the original molds or happen to be a master model maker, it is impossible to recreate them.

I might add a way to build them at a smaller scale later, but for now, the focus is on the ships that you can build as 1:1 replicas.
Introduction

Some basic information on the model kits I use and what to expect when you attempt to build the ships. Some basic knowledge is presumed, as I will go into detail on how to work on the models, but not so much on the techniques. My best advice: use youtube instruction videos if you are unsure how to do things. That's how I learned the trade.

Building the Buran -
Challenger class construction

How to build the Challenger class kitbash. The Challenger class USS Buran was a two-nacelled vessel. Her most notable feature (besides the unusual nacelle arrangement) was the inclusion of a typhon class submarine turret, taken from the Revell model kit of the "Red October".

Building the Ahwahnee -
Cheyenne class construction

How to build the Cheyenne class kitbash. The USS Ahwahnee features a distinct 4-nacelle design. Judging by the awareness she gets, the ship he seems to be a fan favorite among the Wolf ships, even though information on the ship is sparse. One of the two kitbashes that uses stabilo highlighters as warp nacelles (the other being the Springfield class).

Building the Melbourne -
Nebula class construction

How to build the Nebula class kitbash. The USS Melbourne was the only graveyard ship to be completely rebuilt as a full scale studio miniature for season 4's "The Wounded". This early version of a Nebula class ship features two baby engines instead of the triangular pod.

Building the Kyushu -
New Orleans class construction

How to build the New Orleans class kitbash. The USS Kyushu is an irregularity as she is the only ship not in scale with the others. She has the most Enterprise-ish configuration of the bunch and comes equipped with three Schwan Stabilo highlighters that could be... well, anything, really.

Building the Chekov -
Springfield class construction

How to build the Springfield class kitbash. The USS Chekov looks like a 24th century Oberth class update. She was famously cut from dialogue and replaced with the USS Tostoy (a Rigel class ship, according to the Encyclopedia). The latter was never seen on screen, however.
